How it works
Three steps from broken document to review-ready file.
Upload your document. Abrira supports the most common file types, with more added regularly.
Abrira runs a battery of accessibility checks and applies each fix as a tracked change, using the file's native format. Every change has a margin comment explaining it.
Open the output file and review each fix using your app's built-in tracked-changes view. Accept or reject before saving. Flag-only issues appear as comments, not tracked changes.
What gets fixed
Abrira targets the accessibility problems most commonly flagged by Word's Accessibility Checker and WCAG 1.3.1.
Heading structure
Skipped or out-of-order heading levels (e.g. H1 → H3) are detected and corrected as tracked changes.
Implied headings
Short all-bold paragraphs that read like headings are proposed as real headings via tracked change, with a comment asking you to confirm the level.
Missing alt text
Images and tables without alternative text receive a placeholder you fill in — search "description needed" in Word to find them all.
Document language
A missing default language is set to en-US so screen readers choose the correct voice and pronunciation rules.
Fake lists
Lines using dash, bullet, or numbered characters instead of Word's list styles are converted to real OOXML list paragraphs.
Table headers
Header rows are marked with both tblHeader and firstRow so screen readers announce them correctly on every row.
Your files stay private
Abrira processes documents on the server and discards them immediately. Nothing persists beyond your session.
Your file is deleted from the server the moment you download the remediated version — the download link works once, then the file is gone.
Nothing is logged, stored, or retained after your session ends. There are no user accounts and no analytics on document content.
Processing happens on the server only. Your document is never sent to a third-party AI or external service — all rules run locally in Python.
